‘faded memories’ is a 500 cm x 220 cm x 500 cm maze installation. Made of steel, chiffon with printed images and hand sewn writing.
In this piece you are invited to navigate through the four layers of the maze, an unwinding of childhood memories.
The work draws on the nature of memory and recollection, how the emotional truth of a memory remains intact through retelling, while the factual record stays fixed. It unfolds as a narrative of yearning: a desire to be heard, seen, and understood. Through full immersion in this disorienting journey, the installation exhibits a quiet promise of empathy.
Memories of the past, particularly those formed in childhood, play a crucial role in shaping personal identity, grounding who we become over time. This work stems from a deep interest in how art can be experienced and absorbed through play, tapping into the instinctive curiosity of the inner child as a way of learning and understanding.
